Maneja Beto played a special two-set show last night in their hometown of Austin. If you’re not familiar, this Spanish-singing indie quintet has been mixing the best Latin rhythms with their love for ’80s post-punk for eight years now. If you ever wondered what Joy Division would sound like as a cumbia band from Texas, or what Morrissey would sound like with a Tejano influence, these guys are your answer.
Last night was the band’s last show, at least for a good while, as their lead singer is moving up north. Maneja Beto is now on a sort-of hiatus, though they will have a new album released nationally in the fall. That album, Escante Calling, was available at the show last night. Everyone else will just have to wait.
