March 18, 2010. Among your usual suspects of this year’s indie festival circuit—your Local Nativeses and your Japandroidses—there was another band who is no stranger to huge crowds and glowing reviews, though this may have been its first foray into the English version of that world. Bogotá, Colombia’s Bomba Estéreo took lots of gringos by storm at the Levi’s/FADER Fort during SXSW with their fiery brand of modern Latin hip-hop/funk. Led by the groovy basslines of songwriter Simón Mejía and the raw charisma of emcee/firecracker Liliana Saumet, Bomba Estereo will be shaking ass and taking names all over the world. That includes the indie world.
