The folks at Transmission finally announced the music lineup for the black, blue and orange stages at this year’s 8th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest in November. It is the mother of all fests. Where else can you see Slayer and Big Freedia on the same lineup as Daniel Johnston?
Many guys see music festivals as just another way to pick up chicks. As girls, we can get any dude, any day of the year, so why would we waste a once-a-year event like ACL chasing some guy who probably hasn’t showered in a few days?
Let’s be honest: We’re more inclined to attend music festivals if we know attractive women will be there. The thought of finding our true love, soul-mate, booty call or one-night stand in a sea of Childish Gambino fans is pretty wonderful.
Red, white and black is the theme of this year’s crop of Lollapalooza headliners. The 2012 lineup was announced today and top billing goes to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, The Black Keys and Black Sabbath. Fans of guitar-driven rock ‘n’ roll will be happy, but festivalgoers who’ve come to expect hip-hop and pop […]
It’s announcement season for Texas music festivals. Two weeks ago, El Paso’s Neon Desert revealed Moby and Ghostland Observatory as its headliners. Earlier today, Austin’s Pachanga Fest announced 19-time Latin Grammy winners Calle 13 as its headliner. Well, now comes word that Free Press Summer Fest is bringing The Avett Brothers, Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson […]
You might hear the words “Latino music fest” and expect Tejano music, or something vaguely Caribbean. But in the case of the Pachanga Latino Music Festival—one of the most sonically diverse festivals in the country—you’d be wrong. The lineup for the fifth annual Pachanga was announced today and it features everything from South American hip […]
The Neon Desert Music Festival has announced what they’re calling “phase 1” of the 2012 lineup, and it includes Moby, Sparta and Ghostland Observatory as tentative headliners. Neon Desert, for the uninitiated, is an annual music festival in El Paso, Texas. This year’s fest is happening on Saturday, May 26, at Cleveland Square Park in downtown El […]
Day 2 of Fun Fun Fun Fest mostly entailed a lot of wind, a lot of dust and a lot of dirt amongst an encompassing atmosphere of sound. It was difficult to find anyone without a scarf or bandana wrapped around their face—unless they were smoking Marlboros or chugging a Red Bull, of course. First […]
Fun Fun Fun Fest was finally here and Day 1 kicked off with the perfect weather at Auditorium Shores. The sky was a piercing, brilliant blue that reflected off the tall buildings in perfect view of the Blue and Orange Stages. Upon walking in through the public entrance, to the right were various organizations, such […]
This year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest is moving to Auditorium Shores south of downtown Austin, in effect doubling the fest’s capacity from its previous home. FFF, as the fest is also known, will take place Nov. 5 and 6 this year. A limited amount of discount tickets will go on sale in May. A Friday kick-off event is […]
Day Two of Fun Fun Fun Fest was anything but disappointing. Unlike Friday night, all four stages were going and booked with bands for just about anyone’s musical taste. The hip-hop heads and dance music lovers had their blue stage. Indie lovers and Pitchfork loyalists flocked to the orange stage while the tattooed black t-shirt […]
C3 Presents today announced the complete list of official aftershows for this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival. If you plan to be in Austin for ACL, then don’t sleep on these club shows, unless you’re just not a fan of The Black Keys, Spoon, Sonic Youth, The Strokes or Deadmau5. Tickets for the aftershows […]
Interview by Ian Morales. VersaEmerge began 2010 with high expectations. After coming off a strong 2009 in which the band performed their first South By Southwest and Warped Tour, the next logical step was to add a full-length record to their list of accomplishments. Signed to the popular pop-punk label Fueled By Ramen, the Florida natives released […]
Interview by Ian Morales. What Panic at The Disco is to the genre “circus rock,” Orange County based four-piece New Year’s Day is to “Haunted Mansion rock.” Fronted by the eccentric Ashley Costello, New Year’s Day has been grinding it out on the entire leg of this year’s Vans Warped Tour. This year was the band’s second […]
For the first time since its 2006 inception, this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest will be expanded to three days, taking place Nov. 5-7 at Waterloo Park in Austin, Texas. Big names on the list include MGMT, Devo, Bad Religion, Mastodon, The Hold Steady, GWAR and Dirty Projectors. In an unexpected twist, parody musician “Weird” Al Yankovic […]
Words by Ian Morales. Photos by Chris Carrasquillo. Hey Monday is a two-year-old pop-punk band fronted by the dynamic Cassadee Pope. Originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, the quartet is currently on the entire leg of the Warped Tour this summer performing on the Altec Lansing stage. Performing on Warped Tour for the first time, […]
Anyone who’s been to a major music festival knows, people-watching can be just as important as the music when it comes to making the overall experience memorable. Festivals bring together diverse groups of people, and nowhere is that more evident than at Warped Tour. From mohawked punks decked in all-black and chains to kids in […]
Words by Brett Thorne. Photos by Chris Carrasquillo. I wasn’t at the first Warped Tour back in 1991, so what do I really know? Maybe there have been corporate sponsorships since day one. It’s got to be pretty expensive moving that punk-rock circus from town to town nearly every day for two months in the […]
WTF. The Eagles? Phish? Are you effing serious? Well, the 2010 lineup for the Austin City Limits Music Festival has been announced, and we’re not thrilled by how top-heavy the bill is with old-guy-with-a-ponytail-and-Hawaiian-shirt music. ACL somewhat redeems itself in the middle of the bill with Austin metal gods The Sword, hipster-band-of-the-month The National and […]
Godspeed You! Black Emperor has decided to reenter the belly of this horrible machine. The generation-defining (and defying) post-rock collective is ending a seven-year hiatus to curate and headline The Nightmare Before Christmas on Dec. 3-5. Presented by All Tomorrow’s Parties, the Nightmare will take place at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead, England, and will feature 40 […]
