RxSM, a self-medicated film expo, presents the fifth annual Film ExChange March 6-13. Yes, that’s during South by Southwest (SXSW). RxSM invites moviegoers to their many film screenings along with music video showcases.
The returning underdog film expo brings independent film flair to Austin. This year’s lineup features over 100 vanguard films from more than 20 first-time filmmakers giving the viewers a cutting-edge experience. On that schedule list includes a short film by Luke Wilson, Satellite Beach, with him and Steven Eckelman in attendance.
Director Matt Johnson (The Dirties), Clayton Patterson, legendary NYC photographer and Lisa Mart, award-winning short documentary filmmaker will award one finalist in each category (feature, short and documentary). Because RxSM celebrates innovative films, the judges are looking for certain elements that showcase a unique style, artistic vision and talent behind the film. The finalists awarded will screen their films again and awards are presented at the Victoria TX Indie Film Fest (VTXIFF) in April where they will split a $5,000 purse. Over $20,000 in cash and services will be returned to the indie filmmaking community.
All Crossroads Award screenings and comedy showcases are sponsored by Film ExChange, The Naked Grape and Negra Modelo. For free entry, RSVP through Do512. All events are free, but that does not mean a guaranteed entry. Screenings will be held at the Spider House Ballroom and Chapel, Juju Foto Factory and The New Movement. Opening night parties and award ceremonies will be held at Juju Foto Factory. The film expo begins March 6 starting with an opening night party, and closes March 13. A list of the week-long schedule can be found on RxSM’s official website.
