April fools kicks off with the 28th Annual Funniest Person in Austin contest at Cap City Comedy Club. A variety of rookie and veteran comedians will compete for the chance to win the grand prize of $2,500.
The annual festival has been highlighted on a national scale with representatives from Comedy Central, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Late Night Show with Craig Ferguson attending the semi-final and final rounds. The comedy scene in Austin is growing from stand-up comedy at The North Door to the highly anticipated Moontower Comedy Fest.
Comics will compete over a six-week period for the title of Funniest Person in Austin. The preliminary round starts Monday, April 1, and will continue on Mondays and Tuesdays until May 7. Semi-final rounds will take place from May 13 through May 15. The final round will be held on May 20. The second-place winner will receive $1,000 and the third-place winner gets $500.
