Coming up on their 30th year as a band, psychedelic-rockers The Flaming Lips are releasing The Terror. their long-awaited thirteenth studio album. While The Terror doesn’t come out until April 2 in the U.S via Warner Bros. Records, an exclusive non-album digital-only bonus track will be up for download on January 29 if you pre-order the album. The Terror consists of nine original tracks that are a bit more darker than The Flaming Lips’ previous works. This album portrays the daring and significant musical trek this band has taken together over the last 30 years. The Lips’ frontman Wayne Coyne sums it up the best.
“If we have love, give love and know love,” Coyne says, “we are truly alive and if there is no love, there would be no life. The Terror, we know now, that even without love, life goes on…we just go on…There is no mercy killing.”
The Terror was produced by Dave Fridmann, band’s long-time collaborator, and The Flaming Lips at Tarbox Road Studios. Fridmann has co-produced all of The Lips’ releases since 1990 except for Transmissions from the Satellite Heart. Originally formed in Norman, Oklahoma, The Flaming Lips have seen many come and go from the band but they never stopped doing what they do best and have developed as a group over the years.
So remember, pre-order your copy of The Terror on the iTunes Store starting January 29 to receive the free digital download of the exclusive non-album track, “Sun Blows Up Today.” This track is featured as the music bed for a Hyundai TV commercial that stars The Flaming Lips and will premiere during this year’s Super Bowl on February 3.
