Austin’s own cinematic post-rock group My Education is gearing up to celebrate the release of its latest album, A Drink For All My Friends.
The album hit stores this week in pretty much every format available: CD, vinyl, cassette and mp3. The vinyl release comes in five different colors, so you can choose whether you want to stare at a spinning blur of blood red, dark green, orange, lavender or royal blue, as you’re entranced by the group’s hypnotic orchestrations.
The septet is playing two album-release shows this weekend; they hit Austin at the ND on Friday and Walter’s in Houston on Saturday. On top of that, the band was recently announced as an official South by Southwest 2013 selection.
Since its formation in 1999, My Education has had a half-dozen official releases, ranging from film scores to collaborative efforts to remix albums. A Drink For All My Friends sees the band return to a purer vision of its sound. The trademark ambient build-ups are still present, but they turn up the fire on faster, heavier tracks like “Homunculus.”
My Education recently released the music video for “Homunculus,” which appears on A Drink For All My Friends. Check out the video below.
