When four hopeful explorers, on a mission to find diamonds in the boreal forest, stumble across mother nature, their expedition turns into a battle of survival. Austin’s Violet Crown Cinema presents the film Letter Never Sent. The film is apart of Violet Crown Cinema’s “Arthouse Monthly” series in partnership with The Criterion Collection, Blue Ray/DVD movie experts. The film is scheduled to release Tuesday, November 20, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Director Mikhail Kalatozo, captures the story of despondency, vexation, and defeat after triumph has been discovered. The film, originally adapted from the book Neotpravlennoye pismo by Valeri Osipov, shows the desperate need of survival. Kalatozo’s Letter Never Sent, is acclaimed for the visuals filmed in black and white. With close ups, high angles shots, and long shots Kalatozo’s captivates the detailed emotions of the characters.
Mother Nature interrupts the map, leading to the diamonds, that’s meant to be delivered to Moscow. The day of the departure a forest fire sparks on the opposite side from their food supply, leaving them trapped. They are left stranded in the unbearable Siberian weather with the urgency to stay alive. Madness, hopelessness, and uncertainty take a toll on their sanity.
