Blues-rock duo Black Pistol Fire are one of the few bands I’ve gotten excited about in the past few years. After hearing so many bands that flood my inbox everyday, it is rare that something stands out to me or makes it to my personal collection. Yes folks, Black Pistol Fire are that good. The duo is composed of long time friends Kevin McKeown on guitar/lead vocals and Eric Owen on drums. In the next few days beginning tonight, June 29, at Antone’s, Austinites will have three chances to see the band live.
Tonight at Antone’s, Black Pistol Fire are one of the openers for Austin legend and Antone’s favorite, The Scabs. Saturday night, June 30, the group will be one of the many performers in a solid list of bands at Fire Fest near McKinny Falls. Finally, Black Pistol Fire will share the bill with Americana artists Hudson Moore and Band of Heathens at Nutty Brown Amphitheatre on July 4.
The Toronto-turned-Austin-based pair are currently playing in support of their most recent EP, Shut Up!, a tribute to Little Richard, and the August release of their sophomore LP, Big Beat 59. Both are excellent. Get a sampling of Shut Up! below.
