If Tera Melos could be compared to any character from one of their favorite TV shows, The Simpsons, it would have to be a tie between Bart Simpson and Krusty the Clown. There’s traces of punk, thrash rebellion in their frenetic riffs, accompanied by odd time signatures and quirky transitions that will leave listeners stupefied, laughing wildly as they are swallowed into experimental rock madness. The Sacramento trio have been working hard these past years, and are gradually reaping the benefits, one of them being a tour with reunited group, fIREHOSE.
Created in 2004, Tera Melos have since carved their own spaz-rock path, redefining their genre-bending sound along the way. Their latest release, Patagonian Rats, is a testament to that change: from the atmospheric, psych-funk “Frozen Zoo,” to the explosive and upbeat “The Skin Surf,” Patagonian Rats showcases the group’s eclectic sound fusing with infectious pop riffs and melodies. The album landed on many Best of 2010 lists, and even iconic hardcore punk connoisseur Henry Rollins has championed the album on his KCRW radio show.
Being longtime friends with fIREHOSE/Minutemen/The Stooges bassist Mike Watt, it should not come as a surprise that Tera Melos were hand-picked by fIREHOSE, to support the group on their upcoming reunion tour dates on the west coast. Considering the trio has played alongside groups Boris, Melt Banana and Le Butcherettes, Tera Melos will be a great opener for the influential fIREHOSE.
