Austin-based funksters and Grupo Fantasma side-project Brownout performed their “Brown Sabbath” set live at Mohawk’s outdoor stage on Thursday night. Yes, the funky little brother of the biggest Latin band in the land performed funked out versions of the Black Sabbath classics. Brownout is even releasing a full on “Brown Sabbath” record due out later this spring that features Alex Maas of Austin-based psych-rock kings The Black Angels and drummer/vocalist Alex Marrero of the (defunct) Latin Alternative band Ghandaia. Marrero even appeared on stage at Mohawk on Thursday as a guest vocalist.
For those that missed the incredible live “Brown Sabbath” set on Thursday night, Brownout will be performing it again at Pachanga Latino Music Festival on May 10 at Fiesta Gardens.
