Sometimes dads have to rock out too. After a long week of work, paying bills, mowing the lawn and giving you the side-eye when you talk about current events, dads need to blow off some steam. Luckily for them, Steely Dan and Elvis Costello & The Imposters are playing tonight at Austin360 Amphitheater.
Steely Dan has been at it for over 40 years now. Always a “band’s band,” the duo of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (and countless numbers of studio musicians) somehow figured out the correct formula for combining rhythm & blues, jazz, and soft rock – often with highly subversive lyrics to boot. That they cracked the mainstream all those years ago is proof of their genius, that they seem to have endless appeal is a testament to their smartly crafted tunes. “Haitian Divorce,” “Kid Charlemagne,” “Black Friday,” “Peg,” “Any Major Dude Will Tell You,” and so many more are guaranteed to get the dads strumming their collective air guitars.
Elvis Costello is a man who nary needs an introduction. Once known as the original Angry Young Man, then the Next Bob Dylan, then the Elder Statesman, Costello is simply now known as one of the best songwriters of all time. His back up band, The Imposters, include two original members of Costello’s first outfit The Attractions. Rumor has it the boys will be playing fan-favorites and hits, so expect a little “Watching the Detectives” next to “Beyond Belief.”
Steely Dan’s “Rockabye Gollie Angel” tour is at Austin360 Amphitheater, located at 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. Tickets range from $35 – $175. For more information visit the Austin360 Amphitheater website here. Dads rejoice!
