The June installment of the Red Bull Sound Select Austin concert series returns to Mohawk on Thursday, June 4. Curated by Transmission Events, the concert will be headlined by none other than Sub Pop Records neo-garage fave, King Tuff. He will be joined by Austin’s own alt-rock prodigies Residual Kid and Portland quartet Summer Cannibals.
Vermont native Kyle Thomas, aka King Tuff, is today’s answer to artists like Iggy Pop, ’70s Rolling Stones and even Germs. He’s been a member of various acts including J. Mascis’ Witch and indie-pop group Happy Birthday before going full-throttle as King Tuff. He releases his debut Was Dead in 2008, only to have it re-issued again via Burger Records in 2013.
For critics and music nerds alike, it seemed that his self-titled sophomore release and first via Sub Pop was the album to set him apart from his previous projects, showcasing his flare for ’70s glam-era classic rock and Burger Records style garage flair. His latest release, 2014’s Black Moon Spell, showcased his talent even further with a rock-infused ballad, more power-pop and the same garage flair fans enjoyed on King Tuff.
