Thursday, Apr. 2, the Mohawk’s indoor stage will be overflowing with locally based hip-hop talent after soul band KP & The Boom Boom get the party started. The four band showcase will be serving as the album release show for Unfolding, the latest release from hip-hop/jazz fusionists MODAL.
Formed in 2013, MODAL is a relative unknown amongst most casual hip-hop fans in Austin. Fronted by the dynamic Nicolas “Pojo” Azlon, the backing bands features childhood friends (musicians) playing drums, bass, guitar, piano and trumpet. The group is best heard live as they are known for jazzy improvisations and rolling with Pojo’s in-the-moment, spoken word freestyles.
While the night belongs to MODAL, the headliner worthy supporting acts are not to be missed. Austin’s answer to groups like The Pharcyde and Tha Alkaholiks, Mindz Of A Different Kind (MDK), go on early before Austin’s favorite hip-hop band, Magna Carda.
Mohawk is located at 912 Red River. Doors open at 9 p.m. All ages welcome. Cover is $5 for 21+ and $8 for minors. Visit the Facebook event page here.
