This Monday, Feb. 2, New Zealand singer-songwriter Brooke Fraser will be making a stop in Austin on her three-week Brutal Romantic tour. Alongside Fraser, as direct support, will be Los Angeles-based indie-pop artist Dark Waves.
Fraser is now on her 13th year of being signed with Sony Music on a multi-album deal. While she has been making music for a long time, Fraser’s music career came to it’s first high point in 2011 when her single “Something in the Water” became a huge hit. This single gained radio success in Europe, the UK and Australia, and was certified Double Platinum in New Zealand. Fraser gained fans in Australia after opening for notable artists such as John Mayer and David Bowie. After spending so many of her formative years in the music world, Fraser says that Brutal Romantic “feels so strongly like something new.”
Dark Waves is fronted by multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Nick Long. The indie-pop project has been gaining momentum from both media and fans recently. His debut track “The Heart Beat The Soul,” accumulated over two million streams on Spotify, while his most recent release, “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love,” hit the number two spot on the Hype Machine’s most popular chart. You may be familiar with it thanks to the single being featured on the popular CW television series, Vampire Diaries. Not bad for an opener.
The Parish is located at 214 E. 6th street. Doors open at 7 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m. All ages welcome. Advanced tickets for this event are available for purchase online here.
