This Friday at Frank, Red River Noise presents an eclectic indie showcase featuring some of Austin’s best up-and-coming bands. The bands all feature various pop elements that will make you want to nod your head and dance. Between Letting Up Despite Great Faults’ dream-pop, Borrisokane’s electronic-rock, and Shortwave Party’s tons of jangle, you are looking at one memorable night of live music.
Headlining the showcase is electronic dream-pop band Letting Up Despite Great Faults. The band features airy vocals, upbeat guitar lyrics, and danceable electronic rhythms, creating compositions that capture the dreaminess and sleepiness and fun of being young. The release of their self-titled debut LP received positive critical acclaim from Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. They recently released their second full-length album, Untogether, toured in Japan, performed at the 3rd annual Silver Lake Jubilee.
Performing before Letting Up Despite Great Faults is the up-and-coming electronic pop-rock band Borrisokane. The enchanting dueting vocals between Rebecca Anne and Derek Asuan-O’Brien compliment their style–how it shifts from one chord to another, from dark to light, from loud to soft; their lyrics and sound paint a dreamy, hazy portrait of love, of darkness, of unity, of conflict– tingeing the images they create with magic realism and abstraction. The sextet has recently shared stages with Knifight, Girl On Girl, Geography and Growl, and are currently working on a new album to be released this Spring.
Shortwave Party will be kicking off the night with their refreshing jangle-rock style. Swift, quick, howling vocals by Shelby DuPerier compliment the upbeat rhythms of the bass, rapid percussion and jangly riffs. Shortwave Party released their debut 3-track album, Where To Begin, last September and have performed with Borrisokane, Migrant Kids and Major Major Major.
