With so many bands to see during Free Week at just about every independent venue in the city, we thought we would make things easy for you on Saturday. We’re giving indie fans one of the best lineups put together all week long and it is all happening at Club DeVille. Sure, we could have booked some established headliners you already knew about with a big fan base, but Free Week is about discovering what’s hot and new. For our “Future of Indie” showcase, we’ll be presenting some of the best up-and-comers the scene has to offer from Austin and San Antonio on two stages.
Showcase opener Oh Look Out may be a hot up-and-comer, but comes from an old Austin favorite. JP Pfertner, of Built By Snow fame, is the man behind the one man 8-bit indie band. Pfertner is fun to watch live and plays the outdoor stage at 7:30 p.m. Newly re-loacted from Brownsville, indie quartet Friday Avenue follow at 8:15 p.m.
Borrisokane brings their dark indie-electro sound at 9 p.m. while Knifight! showcase their new look five piece band at 10 p.m. San Antonio-based Hydra Melody, the Alamo City’s answer to Cursive and Minus The Bear, close the outside stage at 11 p.m.
The party moves inside at midnight with one San Antonio’s most popular indie bands, Pop Pistol. The atmospheric-indie trio was voted by San Antonio’s alt-weekly newspaper (Current) as “Best Indie Rock Band” last year. Closing the night out at 1 a.m. with one of a kind “electro-mex” sound is Migrant Kids.
Club DeVille is located at 900 Red River. Doors open at 7 p.m. Music at 7:30 p.m. 21+ are welcome. No cover. Visit the Facebook event page here.
