As Free Week comes to a close, the infectious vibe of the city still carries on for one last night of Free-dom. On January 12, Holy Mountain presents a steamy-hot lineup featuring Austin’s first chicha group playing some ’60s and ’70s inspired psychedelic and rhythmic cumbia, some big band soul-singing and a little indie en Español veterans playing together again. Add mix master Manolo Black of Peligrosa spinning and you have the formula for one good ass night.
Starting out the night is ex-Maneja Beto members, Como Las Movies. The incredible 9-piece big band soul outfit, Roxy Roca, follow, so put on your dancing shoes. These musical acts are just enough fuel to add to that dancing fire. The party doesn’t stop there either…
Headliners Money Chicha are Austin’s first Peruvian/Colombian, psychedelic inspired, chicha band. Made up of a slew of local talent which include band members from Ocote Soul Sounds, Brownout and Grupo Fantasma, these guys are the masters of bringing a little bit of each band together, mixing it with heavy percussion and smooth guitar riffs. It’s like listening to modern day Santana with a cumbia twist. This is the perfect night for some sweaty, hot, romantic dance-offs. So get ready. Vamanos a la mountain!
Holy Mountain is located at 617 E. 7th Street. Doors at 9pm. 21+ welcome.
