Continuing this Saturday is Frontier Bar’s “Austin City Locals,” a free alternative to ACL Fest, featuring local bands Pyramid, Geographer, Schmillion, Growl and Guache. The lineup includes a nice array of surf-rock, indie sensations and electro-pop synths. All weekend, Frontier Bar will feature free shows to continue on your musical spree during ACL weekend.
The night begins with the garage surf-rock band Gauche. This Austin-based garage band includes some of the best licks fit for the genre from the likes of Dick Dale. Edgy vocals from Evan Gottschling bring a nice flare similar to Iggy Pop. Next, the youthful and energetic quartet of Growl. The indie-pop group from Austin consists of a mesh of many different levels of fun and keep you moving to happy groove.
Later, to keep that happy groove growing comes indie kids Schmillion. Winners of best under 18 bands from the Austin Chronicle in 2010 and in 2011. Coming together in 2009, they have rocketed towards the top sharing the stage with The Bangles during their SXSW set, opened for Arcade Fire during their tour on Texas dates, while four of the band members still just 16-17 years old.
Co-headliners Geographer plugs in the electric synth-pop with added guitar and cello for a unique blend of sensational sound. Crowned by Spin magazine as the top three “Undiscovered Bands You Need to Hear Now”, they were not joking. The three piece band blends a perfect haunting, harmonious flow with vocals, guitar, keys and bass from Mike Deni, Cello from Nathan Blaz and drums of Brian Ostreicher.
Lastly, indie-rockers Pyramid, close out the night with a ripple of experimental bliss taking you on magical journey straight out of a sci-fi film. All coming together for one epic night of must see bands!
Frontier Bar is located at 2421 Webberville Rd. The show is free for ages 21 and up.
