Tonight’s the night! We announced our first Red River Noise showcase of 2012 a few weeks ago, and it’s finally here.
Rather than come out of the gate timid and choose safe bands, we decided to hit Austin with some of the weirdest, most brilliant and unique acts this city has to offer. We love these bands, and we hope you will too. So join us tonight at Frank (407 Colorado St.).
The night’s headliner is SORNE, a trio whose sound is a haunting and mesmerizing wall of tribal percussion and frontman Morgan Sorne’s passionate, larger-than-life voice. We don’t know what genre to call this. Space folk? Primal psychedelia? Peyote-trip-in-the-desert electro pop? You’ll just have to come out and decide for yourself. Read our feature story about the man behind the band here. SORNE takes the stage at midnight.
Before SORNE, Boyfrndz will provide some noise-pop freakouts. The band is only a year old, but they’ve already released a debut EP produced by Ikey Owens of Mars Volta fame. The trio can pummel with mathy noise or leave you in a shoegazing trance. Boyfrndz plays at 11:15.
Knifight opens the show at 10:30 with their beat-driven ’80s-post-punk-influenced electronic sound. We’re kicking the night off with the most dance-worthy of the three bands.
This is an all-ages show. Cover is $7 at the door. Check out the Facebook event page here. Frank also serves gourmet hot dogs, so show up early and put some delicious sausage in your mouth.
Here’s some ear candy to keep you satiated until tonight….
