Austin Vida is our sister online publication that covers Latin music and entertainment from Austin and all over the world. Bemba Entertainment is an Austin-based entertainment company that produces and promotes unique events inspired by the arts and multiculturalism. Both Austin Vida and Bemba Entertainment have been the go to for great Latin music showcases here in Austin, showcasing everything from Austin based, regional and international acts from all different types of genres. Together, they put together a pretty good party.
On Friday, May 13, the two companies are coming together to give Latin music fans a great Latin Alternative showcase at Momo’s. The showcase will feature three great up-and-coming bands: Making Movies, Master Blaster Sound System and Cilantro Boombox.
Opening the show will be Kansas City based bilingual indie band, Making Movies. This talented quartet incorporates Latin style percussion with melodic guitars to produce a unique and danceable indie rock. The group is on tour in support of their debut album, In Deo Speramus. Making Movies perform at 10:30pm.
Master Blaster Sound System are coming all the way from Corpus Christi, Texas to bring us their danceable crunk influenced cumbia and bass heavy Norteño blends. D.J. Dus and Cecy Trevino join Brian Ramos (Charanga Cakewalk, Kanko, formerly of Grupo Fantasma) on stage for one last show before their big Pachanga Fest performance happening on May 21. Performing in support of their self titled EP, the group is at the forefront of bridging the divide between the live band, DJ and cumbia underground cultures. Master Blaster perform at 11:45am.
Closing the night at Austin’s Cilantro Boombox. The music of Cilantro Boombox combines elements of Latin, pop and rock with hip-hop, funk, electronic genre, with a dash of traditional Venezuelan music. Beats and percussion, infectious bass lines and vibrant horns with underlying synth sounds are what define their style. Cilantro Boombox take the stage at 12:45am.
