Now that everyone is done recovering from South by Southwest, it is time to get back to doing Austin again. One of our favorite recent traditions here in The Live Music Capital is Transmission’s Adi Anand’s “First Friday Frolic” showcases. Once again we are a proud media sponsor and this Friday has us really excited about two female fronted bands. The first band we featured for our “Made In Austin” interview series, The White White Lights (TWWL), open the show.
After a successful start out of the box in 2009 and rave reviews for their 2010 release Medium Head Boy, TWWL continue on with a new album in the works and plans for vinyl singles available only at shows. Frontwoman Jenny Gacey is backed by former Lomita guitarist Delux Peroux, Misty Watkins on bass and drummer Davy Hamrick who also is a member of STEREO IS A LIE. Their brand of indie blends elements of punk, dance music and new wave. If you have yet to see TWWL live, Friday is just as good of time as any to change that.TWWL perform at 6:00pm.
After TWWL perform, one of Austin’s many talented indie garage rockers, A Giant Dog (AGD), perform at 7:00pm. Formed in 2008, AGD have become staples at popular Red River venue Beerland and off the river at Hole In The Wall. Most recently the band’s single “The Grand” was featured on the second installment of the popular Austin label 12XU’s Casual Victim Pile compilation. For a small sampling of AGD’s music, listen to “The Grand” below:
While we are all about the music, there are plenty of other cool offerings happening Friday at Club de Ville. The $3 cover charge includes treats from downtown eatery Blue Ribbon Barbecue, refreshments from Waialua Soda Works and multiple opportunities to win brand new Gowalla shirts. It is only fit as the night belongs to the popular location based social network. Resident DJ uLOVEi will also spin for your listening pleasure. Other event sponsors and supporters include Austinist, Giant Noise and KVRX 91.7 FM.
