Guided By Voices is one of music’s most iconic indie bands. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, the group is led by prolific frontman Robert Pollard. Formed in the early ’80s, the band had a pretty good run of frequent releases until they disbanded in 2004. With various member changes throughout the years, GBV got back together earlier this year for the big Matador Records anniversary show in Las Vegas with a lineup that included Mitch Mitchell, Tobin Sprout and of course Pollard.
That line up of GBV played a few select dates after the Matador show, including the first show of 2010 at the new East Austin venue Eastside Drive-In on Sept. 30. Pollard told the crowd Austin is one of my top three cities they love to play. The other two, Pollard told the crowd as he swung a liquor bottle all night, were New York City and Chicago. Red River Noise photographer Chris Carrasquillo was there to capture photos of the band, the food trailers and the double-decker bus from the historic (and sold-out) show.
