This summer, we worked with promoter and Red River all-star Adi Anand to support his Wednesday happy hour showcases at Mohawk, From The Mind of Adi (FTMOA).
The intent of FTMOA is not only to spotlight Austin indie bands, but also provide an enjoyable Red River experience without dragging the next day at work or school. Unlike most shows in Austin, the First Friday Frolic showcases begin at 5 p.m. and end around 8. This summer the showcases were on Wednesdays but now Adi and company are frolicking on Fridays. The next installment of the First Friday Frolic series is Ultra 8201 night and takes place on Oct. 1 at Club DeVille.
Performing this Friday first will be Austin indie band Politics. This group of musicians formed in 2006 and have been making their rounds in the Red River club scene ever since. They are favorites of local blogs Covert Curiosity and Ultra8201. With elements of ambient indie, dark Joy Division-like vocals and spacey guitar notes, Politics is a band worth taking notice of.
Headlining Friday will be Til We’re Blue Or Destroy. Formed in 2005, TWBOD came out with some local indie blogger and media buzz for their 2007 debut, This Train. Their sound reminds of a local New Pornographers with a hint of dance-pop and shoegaze. Come out Friday to Club de Ville to see how this nine member band manages to pull off their unique sound and killer live show. Check them out here:
As if you need more reasons to come out, Carlos Santana and Chef Roberto Santibañez’ restaurant Maria Maria are providing complimentary snacks for the evening. They will be previewing their upcoming “Taco Tuesday” menu. Beverages will be provided by Waialua Soda Works.
