Moistboyz are are a side project of Ween member Mickey Melchiondo. In Ween, he is known as “Dean Ween.” Melchiondo co-founded Moistboyz with Guy Heller, going by the stage names Mickey Moist and Dickie Moist. A hardcore band that aims to offend and shy away from the politically correct, the band is known as much for their defense of free speech as they are for their music.
The group played a headlining show at Red Eyed Fly on Sept. 10. While they were without Mickey Moist, Dickie Moist did have a big name lineup playing with him that included Jeff Pinkus on guitar (Butthole Surfers), Nick Oliveri on bass (Mondo Generator, Queens of The Stone Age) and Ween drummer Claude Coleman Jr. The group excited the rowdy crowd in attendance as they mostly performed songs from their first two albums, Moistboyz and Moistboyz II. Red River Noise photographer Chris Carrasquillo was there to capture these photos of the rare Austin performance.
