Film School is fuzzy guitars, bittersweet vocals and indie goodness in one band. The Los Angeles-based quintet is headlining at The Parish in Austin this Thursday, Sept. 23, and we’ll be sending one lucky Austinite (and a friend) to the show for free.
We will be giving away a pair of tickets this Thursday afternoon, the day of the show, on our Facebook page. All you have to do to qualify is click “Like” when you see the link posted during the week. This promotion only applies to fans in the Central Texas area capable of making the show.
Film School made their name by releasing two critically acclaimed releases on Beggars Banquet before going in a different direction with their current release, Fission. The album delivers the layers of reverb-heavy guitars, synths and rhythm section that the band is known for, but adds more harmonies, danceable beats while maintaining their pop sensibilities. How that translates into their live show, well you’ll have to find out for yourself. Start with this video for their song “Compare.”
A couple of Austin bands open the show: Monahans and TV Torso.
TV Torso, the bill’s other local opener, features Jordan Johns and Matt Oliver, formerly of the popular Sound Team. Today, TV Torso is as famous for their studio, Big Orange, as they are for their music, which brings together indie-folk and classic rock.
The Parish is located at 214-C East 6th St. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. Advance tickets are available for this show here.
