It’s funny how all the musicians and artist that come to perform in Austin in the summertime forget how hot and humid it can be here. This is why Chicago electro hip-hop emcee and Kanye West protégé, Kid Sister, came dressed down in her Austin 3:16 tank top and hair pulled in a bun.
When we saw her last, at Fun Fun Fun Fest last fall, she looked as fabulous as she did in her videos and promo pictures, untouchable even.
On Friday night, she looked like the girl from around the way. Unlike any old girl from around the way, Kid Sister brings the party no matter where she is. On Friday night, she brought it to Pride Weekend in Austin at Mohawk.
In what was a mixed crowd of college girls, their boyfriends, hipsters and gays, everyone had a good time the minute Kid Sister took the stage, after warming up with a couple of openers and DJs spinning in between sets. An eager front row bounced around and sang along to popular hits like “Right Hand Hi” and “Control.”
Everyone else just enjoyed themselves watching Kid Sister bounce, step, sway and shake her ass. Her swagger and enjoyment of her own music really makes for a great show, even if her set is around 30 minutes short. Luckily for hardcore Kid Sister fans, she performed two new songs and brought up some “dancers” from the audience to get down with her at the end of her set.
