Empress Of gets some (literal) support from a bodybuilder BFF in her video for “Standard.” The dreamy synth-pop song is the soundtrack for some down time between the woman behind the throne, Lorely Rodriguez, and a bodybuilder. There’s hair brushing, nail painting, and, yes, some light flexing thrown in there too.
The video debuted Friday, the same day as Empress Of’s first full-length album, Me, released via XL Recordings/Terrible Records. In addition to performing on the record, Rodriguez also engineered, produced, and recorded it. This full length release comes after EPs like 2013’s bilingual Systems. To promote her latest release, Rodriguez will headline a North American tour this fall that has three October dates in Texas (listed below).
Lorely Rodriguez first gained attention by posting trance-y one minute demos on YouTube with a solid color block, hence Empress Of’s first EP title Colorminutes. Two EPs later the Honduran-American singer played festivals for SXSW, Pitchfork’s Summer Music Festival, and opened for Florence + The Machine.
Empress Of tour dates in Texas:
10/3- El Paso – Lowbrow Palace
10/5 – Austin – The Mohawk
10/6 – Houston – Rudyards British Pub
