Johnny Marr of Smiths fame announced the release date for his second solo album Playland, which is set for release on Oct. 7 via Warner Music Group. Playland will be the second studio album and the follow-up album to 2013’s The Messenger. As he did with The Messenger, Marr once again collaborated with the same musicians whom he was on tour with and with co-producer James Doviak for Playland.
According to the official press release, the title “Playland” is inspired by Homo Ludens, a 1938 book by the highly influential Dutch cultural theorist Johan Huizinga, which explores the concept of play as a precursor and principal element of cultural development.
Upon Playland’s release, Marr is scheduled for a headlining UK tour only. More tour dates will surely follow shortly thereafter.
