Continuing his strange path that started on the dark, far edges of dubstep and somehow ended up with the producer rolling with A-listers like Miley Cyrus and Diplo, weirdo-gone-mainstream DJ and producer Borgore is back once again with a new EP and single, both called “Wild Out.” In typical Boregore fashion (at least these days), the lead eponymous single features another odd-if-perfect collab, this time with the undisputed champ of wildin’ out, Waka Flocka Flame (with singer Paige providin’ on the vocal front as well). I’m not sure I ever wondered what an official Waka Flocka track that breaks down into a punchy, Borgore’d-up hardstyle beat would sound like, but the duo has gone ahead and answered that question for all of us with “Wild Out,” and I’m pretty glad they did. The Wild Out EP comes out Nov. 12 on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, and it’s another chapter in Borgore’s saga of creative genre-mashing and mixing done in a radio-friendly, celeb-endorsed manner.
Some might not know Borgore, so here’s a little about the man to getcha ready for the onslaught of one of his tracks. Borgore is an Israeli dubstep producer whose early tracks (around 2009) were closer to little bits of horror movies condensed into music than anything you could ever expect to hear in a club. When I first heard a Borgore tune grind its grimey-ass out of a speaker, I thought to myself, “Welp, there’s one guy who’ll stay safely underground forever.” This, it turned out, was laughably wrong on my part. People really, really liked Boregore’s heavy-as-fuck version of dubstep, and the dude has ridden that popularity all the way to becoming one of the most successful and well-known people in the EDM scene. With a bigger audience has come bigger experimentation from Boregore, and that’s exactly where we’re at with this new Wild Out EP.
Keep an eye on your record store/iTunes store/other totally legit and not at all illegal ways of obtaining music, as the Wild Out EP drops soon (Nov 12), and if the Steve Aoki-organized “Aokify America” tour is coming through your area, go get your crunchy Israeli dubstep on live, as Boregore is rollin’ with Aoki and Waka Flocka on that jaunt around the nation.
