20th Century Fox announced The Bible producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett will be releasing Son of God, a movie about Jesus’ birth, crucifixion and his resurrection. The film hits theaters on Feb. 28, 2014.
The success of The Bible television series inspired Downey and Burnett to produce and star in Son of God. Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer, composer of 12 Years a Slave and Batman: The Dark Knight, orchestrated the score, giving the film an ethereal feel.
Just 10 years after Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, it’s arguably time for another biblical film that can hopefully compel and captivate audiences before Ash Wednesday. The film’s release date is set a weekend before the Christian practice of Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent.
The film is set to release nationwide no Feb. 28, 2014. Watch the official trailer below.
