On Monday, Sept. 2, ACL Live and Transmission Events are presenting popular punk rock veterans Rancid at ACL Live. I’m sure I was as shocked to write that last sentence as you were to read it. I knew it was only a matter of time until we started seeing popular hardcore acts at ACL Live after learning in March that Stratus Properties, co-owners of Austin’s ACL Live at the Moody Theater and the W Austin Hotel, entered a strategic partnership with Transmission Events. One can only hope this show with Rancid is the just the beginning.
Rancid is the perfect punk rock act to play ACL Live. The band has been together for over 20 years and gained huge popularity in the early ’90s with a great class of punk rock bands such as Bouncing Souls, Unwritten Law, Pennywise and Blink 182 to name a few. Their most recent release, 2009’s Let The Dominoes Fall, was their first after a brief hiatus from 2004-2005. Expect to hear songs from that album as well as a plethora of classics from popular albums …And Out Come The Wolves and Let’s Go.
The show’s co-headliners is none other than Tim Timebomb and Friends, which is Rancid’s Tim Armstrong playing covers of his favorite songs and new covers or renditions of some of Rancid’s own original songs. Other songs from Tim Timebomb and Friends come from Armstrong’s musical film project, RocknNRoll Theater.
ACL Live is located at 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. Doors open at 6 p.m. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. Purchase tickets online here.
