New York City native Margaret Chardiet has been better known as Pharmakon these last five years. Her brutal electronic/death industrial music is fueled by her drive to express her “deep-seated need/drive/urge/possession to reach other people and make them FEEL something [specifically] in uncomfortable/confrontational ways.” While Pharmakon’s music is more on the experimental side, she does not improvise when performing or recording. She is concise and exact and this is what sets her apart from the males that usually dominate the noise genre.
Chardiet is known as one of the founding members of the Red Light District collective in Far Rockaway, NY. By the age of seventeen, she was already a figurehead in the underground experimental scene. She comes from parents that she has previously described as “punks.” Her mother was a painter and her dad was a guitarist who brought Chardiet to her first punk show when she was still in diapers.
Pharmakon’s debut LP Abandon is scheduled to release on May 14. The first single to release from the LP is “Crawling On Bruised Knees.” Check it out below to see for yourself what Pharmakon is all about. Don’t miss her as she makes her way through Austin for Chaos in Tejas on May 31 with The Men, Destruction Unit, Lust For Youth, Marshstepper and Body of Light at Red 7.
