Usually, when an artist’s track gets on a big-time commercial for a major brand, that brand just lets its cashpenis fly around and entice the artist into letting one of their beloved originals go for some big time dollas. That, I think we can agree, kind of sucks hugely. However, when a producer drops fully new material made specifically for a commercial (and them tasty, tasty bills), and then turns around and flips that track into somethin’ sexy and absolutely unsuitable for television, that’s a beat of different color. Wick-It the Instigator, he of the many sounds and whose Tiesto rework we mentioned not too long ago, has done just this with his quite dubby new track known as “We Have Arrived (Re-Spliffed).”
This track was made especially for VIBE Mag, and it takes the original (rather standard commercial fare) track and does the almost unheard of these days by turning a dubstep track into a tune that actually feels legitimately dubby. Considering that about 95% of recent dubstep fans have never even heard a true dub track, and that makes me want to punch a King Tubby record down their heathenbitch throats, Wick-It’s respect for the old-school is a breath of fresh air and well worth a listen.
This kind of excellent, genre-combo work is Wick-It’s calling card, so it’s no surprise that he turned what would have been a mostly profit-based endeavor into something hugely listenable. As we mentioned before, this guy has been taking it to the next level lately, getting props from huge artists like Bassnectar and the inimitable Z-Trip, and getting on the line-up for the spectacular-lookin’ Lights All Night NYE fest in Dallas. On top of that, this non-stop artist is on tour right now, so put your peepers and earholes to work below by checking out the new track and the tour dates. You’ll be happy you did.
