You know how for a while there that saying “There’s an app for that” was a thing? Well, I think we in the electronic music world need to do what we do best and co-opt that shit into “There’s a track for that.” Whatever your mood, whatever your approach to the genre, whatever it is you’re lookin’ for from electronic music, there’s guaranteed to be someone out there going hard in the paint and making that shit for your listenin’ pleasure.
For instance, say you’re one of those people who want to leave an EDM show feeling like you got punched straight through the face by a speaker, but you also love endless pop-culture samples, hip-hop remixes, trap and moombahton? Welp, if you ain’t listenin’ to Wick-It the Instigator already, you will be after this. Wick-It is set to play the Lights All Night NYE fest in Dallas we told you about last week, and he just dropped a blasting new dubstep single called “Feel Lit” to get yer fancy tickled for this big-ass event.
Wick-It is one of those producers who jumps all over the place when it comes to influences, and you can hear pretty much everything this dude is into in his tracks. From sexy-smooth guitar solos to legendary old-school hip-hop bars to samples from Anchorman and Almost Famous, this dude does not shy away from anything. The Instigator has been droppin’ the beat since 2004, but in the last few years he’s started to make it on a bigger scale, opening for dudes like Rusko and getting nods from big-timers like Z-Trip and Bassnectar for his highly adaptable and unique stylings.
The new track is a perfect example of this guy’s versatility, climbing the BPMs up from club hip-hop to that sped-up dubstep sound sometimes known as drumstep. The track is partly culled from fellow Lights All Night performer and general inhumanly popular god/artist Tiësto’s “Feel it in My Bones” track which was done with indie darlings Tegan and Sara, but you’d barely know it from how different the sound feels in Wick-It’s capable hands. This track is out right now for free download and stream at the Instigator’s Soundcloud (check below), and he’s currently on a tour that started out in Knoxville on Nov. 16 and wraps with two festivals, Lights All Night and Wisconsin’s Winter Warmer Festival. Give it a listen and get a taste of what’s to come at Texas’ biggest New Years party, which you most definitely want to be at.
