So I come from the Texas Panhandle, and in that flat-ass, dry-ass, country-ass part of the world, the kids are making two kinds of music: metal/hardcore and EDM. That might sound weird to some folk, but when you see them right next to each other, with their energies, desire to have fun and incredible loudness, it really makes sense why the youth are into both in equal amounts.
And Amarillo isn’t the only spot in the world where this is happening. Cue Big Chocolate, a producer and self-professed metalhead out of Orange County Cali, who is taking his background in both genres and fusing breakdowns with breakbeats to create a whole new sound.
Big Chocolate has been making a name for himself in the last year, especially after droppin’ the wild-as-hell Red Headed Locc album on the masses, and right now he’s about to release his follow-up on Dec. 4, called The Red EP.
Chocolate’s sound is definite party EDM, focusing especially on fast breaky shit and big slamming dubstep tunes, but he sets himself apart from the thousands of other such artists by his unique stylings that often reveal his background in metal and hardcore. This guy is a true lifer when it comes to making music, having been in band after band starting way back in high school and playing his first international show in Moscow at age 18. Chocolate’s career took off after years of goin’ heavy at both EDM and metal, and he’s since played with some of the biggest names in the industry.
Big Chocolate is set to play some major shows in the next month, including the Snowglobe Music Festival in Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Texas’ own Unsilent Night Music Festival in Dallas on Dec. 1.
Watch for The Red EP to drop in a few days, as it’s sure to include more metal riffs perfectly paired to dance floor riddims along with some more electronic-focused tracks all his own style. If you’re the kind that likes to wig out and headbang, Big Chocolate is the man to get you there, so keep up with this guy and wow your Skrillex-lovin’ friends with his amped up tracks.
