Trail Of Dead gets political with new “Catatonic” music video

Austin indie/punk quartet …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead gets political with their latest music video, for the song “Catatonic.”

The video features a Rick Perry-like politician by the name of Rich Dobney (played with bumbling charm and cluelessness by Trail co-frontman Jason Reece). The woeful politician wanders around Austin with cigars, an American flag, cocaine and briefcases full of cash. Such a combination can only result in a bad ending, but I will not spoil it for you.

“Catatonic” is a reflection of Trail of Dead’s newfound interest in politics. According to frontman Conrad Keely, many of the songs off the group’s forthcoming album, Lost Songs, are about current events like the Syrian Civil War and Pussy Riot’s incarceration.

The group’s eighth album will drop on Oct. 23, via Richter Scale/Superball Music. Until then, watch “Catatonic” below.
