Six individuals share their stories that connect with one another in some cosmic way. Their stories span centuries the world over. These stories expound Cloud Atlas, an epic tale of bodacious discovery, mystery and remarkable connections that seem impossible.
Based on the bestselling novel by author David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas is now a feature film starring Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Halle Berry. The ensemble piece also features Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, Keith David, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, David Gyasi, Hugh Grant and Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon. All of the actors listed above play at least four roles, some taking on as many as seven, in the telling of this uniquely ambitious, multi-layered experience.
Acclaimed filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix trilogy), along with Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), create a film with captivating complexity, with each story evolving to create a link. Fate brings each individual together, with each encounter affecting a new consequence or action. No matter the time or place, everything is connected.
If this sounds too confusing to follow, Warner Bros. Pictures has released a six-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, “A Multitude of Drops,” to shed some light on this complex metaphysical drama.
Cloud Atlas is set to release Oct. 26. This film has been rated R for violence, language, sexuality/nudity and some drug use. Watch the five-minute trailer as well as “A Multitude of Drops” below.
