Atlanta native Cody ChesnuTT will be dropping a new album Oct. 30, entitled Landing On A Hundred. The album will be ChesnuTT’s first since his genre-bending release, The Headphone Masterpiece, debuted 10 years ago.
ChesnuTT’s return to the music game was the result of using a microphone that Al Green recorded with. Sounds strange, but the experience led to ChesnuTT writing a new album, with a 10-piece band. Recorded in Memphis-based Royal Studios—the sonic birthplace of some of the deepest works by soul and blues luminaries like Al Green, Buddy Guy and Tine Turner—Landing On A Hundred captures ChesnuTT addressing some adult themes.
Crack addiction, womanizing and the power and labor of slow-burning marital love. ChesnuTT’s forthcoming release will be full of painful truths, that will take listeners on an emotional ride.
After the album’s release the singer-songwriter will be performing with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The show will occur on Nov. 9. Until then, enjoy ChesnuTT on Meshell Ndegeocello’s latest track, “To Be Young, Gifted, and Black,” which can be downloaded here.
