In the midst of the highly visual war of words that’s been escalating between big name DJs recently, it’s easy to get lost in all the ideas and forget about the music. Dub Pistols, it seems, has not forgotten. The Pistols might not be cracking out “Richest DJ” charts like some of the much newer acts that have been mixed up in the recent press battles, but if you’ve had your dance-music loving ears to the east (meaning Britain) at all since 1996, you know the Dub Pistols. And you know they’ve been killing it for over a decade, jumping genres and making great party track after great party track. The 16 years strong legends that began as a monster big beat act are back with their first full album release since 2009’s critically-loved Rum & Coke, and they’ve dropped a hard-rocking music video to go with it.
“Mucky Weekend” is the first single off the upcoming Worshipping the Dollar from Sunday Best Recordings, which was written on the road by the hardworking act and drops today. The track is an instant classic party track, laced with drugs, alcohol and sex references and featuring vocals by another UK legend, Rodney P. Rodney adds his own legend to an album chock full of huge guest names, including Barbados reggae giants Red Star Lion (“Alive) and Lindy Layton (“Rock Steady”), as well as Dub Pistol regular contributors Dan Bowskill, MC Darrison and MC TK. If you like partying, huge breakbeats and horns and think “The chick I’m with is a dime/She looks flame/But I really don’t remember her name” is a hilarious nod to the wild DJ lifestyle, give this video a quick look and get ready to dance your face off.
