Red, white and black is the theme of this year’s crop of Lollapalooza headliners. The 2012 lineup was announced today and top billing goes to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, The Black Keys and Black Sabbath. Fans of guitar-driven rock ‘n’ roll will be happy, but festivalgoers who’ve come to expect hip-hop and pop music headliners sprinkled in with the rock bands will be disappointed; recent Lollas have included the likes of Eminem (2011), Lady Gaga (2010) and Kanye West (2008).
Electronica and its many variations are well-represented, though, with Justice, Avicii, Bassnectar and M83 high on the list of big names. The first two are playing the main stage, a rarity for electronic acts.
A recently reunited At The Drive-In will make its second U.S. festival appearance as well, after announcing their comeback with two Coachella dates. The post-hardcore legends played their first show in 11 years this week in Austin, and damn are y’all in for a treat.
Also, congrats to Austin’s own crown prince of the blues, Gary Clark, Jr., for making the cut.
