“Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my ma and pa / not the way that I do love you.” It would be these opening words from “Home,” that would introduce listeners to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. A refreshing new take on the ever-growing indie-folk music scene, the group is set to return with their highly-anticipated follow-up to their 2009 debut, Up from Below.
The brainchild of vocalist Alex Ebert, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have gained a strong following for their luscious, musical arrangements and vibrant narratives. Their music take listeners on an unforgettable journey through beautiful, rural landscapes, the feeling of euphoria leaving your body relaxed and carefree. Since 2009’s Up from Below, the group has maintained their idyllic demeanor, becoming notorious for last year’s Railroad Revival Tour, where the group, accompanied by Mumford and Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show, embarked on a week-long tour where the group traveled in vintage rail-cars, and performed at outdoor locations along the route.
The group’s sophomore album is scheduled for release on May 29 through Community Music / Vagrant Records. Being recorded at the band’s studio in Ojai, CA, the self-produced album will serve as a testament to the band’s unyielding fervor and creative drive. “Making this album has been a test of our faith in ourselves and in the universe,” explains Ebert. “A deluge of music has been written and recorded, and we are intensely excited to share it with anyone who wants to feel it.” For those eager to hear some of the new material, the group will be hitting the road in March. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ return have been long-awaited; let the adventure begin.
