Every lead singer has it in them: that dream to one day go solo. Many a frontman has stepped into the spotlight to explore a different musical path including Craig Owens of D.R.U.G.S., Anthony Green of Circa Survive and Dallas Green of Alexisonfire (R.I.P.). But now, it’s the ladies’ turn.
Cassaddee Pope, frontwoman of Hey Monday, is diving into her solo career this month with a coast-to-coast U.S. tour. Her new songs that she’ll be playing on tour are darker and more mature than what she played with Hey Monday, yet they still keep that catchy pop sound. The tour will also show off Pope’s little known skills at writing music and playing guitar.
“I want the lyrics to be more edgy and darker than anything on the radio,” Pope said. “Just doing what I love, the real instruments and guitars but with a real pop twist to it.”
