Written with the express intent of not making a mariachi record, Mariachi El Bronx released their third eponymously titled album late last year. Having reworked their sound once from their other incarnation as American hardcore punk outfit The Bronx, this album sees the band re-imagine their signature sound yet again and approach writing from a different direction entirely. This time around, they dusted off old sequencers, synths and an ARP to create soundscapes they could tack their music against. Energized by this fusion of traditional melodies and modern ambience, the band embraced the sonic mash and created a mariachi inspired album instead of a straight mariachi record, marking yet another new direction from this ever-inventive band.
