Austin-based cosmic funksters Golden Dawn Arkestra are a collective of local musicians led by Topaz McGarrigle, aka Zapot Mgwana. As the name implies, the group is influenced by jazz musician and cosmic philosopher Sun Ra. Their music is a psychedelic fusion of sounds that include Afrobeat, funk, Latin and future sounds you haven’t heard about yet. Their live set features the band members wearing “shimmering regal robes remeniscent of intergalactic kingdoms of yore” and go-go dancers. It is truly an out of this world experience.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, Golden Dawn Arkestra will be celebrating the vinyl release of their debut EP. It will be quite the party as Hard Proof and Minor Mishap Marching Band round of the bill. The best part? We have two tickets to giveaway to one of our lucky Red River Noise readers.
The giveaway will be conducted as a raffle from our email list. Just click “enter the drawing” below after submitting your full name and email address. Only submissions with full names will be officially entered. We will pick the winner from these submissions before 6 p.m. on Friday, the day before the show.
