Every Year South By Southwest (SXSW) features showcase performers from all over the UK and this year is no different. One of this year’s noteworthy performers include Glassgow, Scotland alternative hip-hop group Hector Bizerk. While the group may come from a country not typically associated with hip-hop acts, Hector Bizerk are proof that Scotland offers more to the world musically than just indie rock bands.
Drummer/producer Audrey Tait and Scottish battle rap champion Louie formed Hector Bizerk in 2011. Their music is a fusion of hip-hop, reggae-dub influenced bass lines, jazz, drum ‘n bass and spoken word vocal stylings of their frontman. Their live show lineup includes bassist Fraser Sneddon and Dace Calder on synth and percussion.
Hector Bizerk released their debut album Nobody Seen Nothing early last year via Scottish Record label Walk Tall Recordings and was nominated for Scottish Album of The Year. They will arrive in Austin fresh off the release of their new EP The Bell That Never Rang, one of four EPs in their release plan for this year.
Other creative projects from the Glaswegians include premiering a short film titled The Bird That Never Flew, publishing a book of Louie’s poetry and currently scoring the soundtrack to a play about the troubled life of cancan dancer and mental health sufferer, Jane Avril.
