“IFC is a very supportive network” said Maron at the screening event. “I’ve had network deals before, and none of them were ever made.”
One of those deals—as Maron mentioned at the screening—was with Fox Studios. In this pitch, he played a bitter, Oscar-winning short filmmaker who burned all his bridges and moved to Albuquerque to be a wedding videographer. The reason the deal fell apart was because of creative differences with the executives.
The IFC Network gave Maron more freedom with this deal and in turn allowed his vision for this show to come to life. Maron—which is set to premiere Friday, May 3, at 10/9 Central time on IFC—will feature Judd Hirsch as Maron’s father and comedians like Dave Foley, Dennis Leary, Andy Kindler and Ken Jeong who will appear as themselves.
Aside from this new series, Maron also has a new book, titled Attempting Normal, which hit stores this week. The book is more like a memoir that takes the reader on an honest journey through Maron’s mind, which in turn provides hilariously random stories.
