Friday, Feb. 6, Austin-based alt-rock quintet The Rocketboys will be performing a headlining concert at Stubb’s Indoor. The show will serve as a homecoming show of sort as the group will have just returned from a quick three-week tour on the East Coast, including some dates in the Southeast. It is quite the homecoming as they will be joined by Austin-based melodic indie rock faves Pompeii and synth-rock band Strange Fiction.
Once known as “Homer Hiccolm & the Rocketboys,” the band moved to Austin from Abilene in 2009. Their music often gets compared to large commercial bands like Coldplay, Band of Horses and even Death Cab For Cutie. Their sound is very textured with melodic layers and anthemic choruses that are easy to sing along to. The group has released a slew of EPs, a couple of live albums and now two full-length albums.
This Friday The Rocketboys will be performing in support of their latest EP, Left | Right, released on Jan. 6. According to the official press release, The EP was recorded in Los Angeles, CA at Sunset Sound Studios with multi-Grammy award winning producer, Joe Chiccarelli (U2, The Killers, Morrissey) and mastered by Grammy nominee, Emily Lazar (Linkin Park, Christina Perri, Garbage). The album got an early jump on internet buzz recently as the lead single, “Viva Voce,” was featured on the season premiere episode of the popular Fox television show Glee. Listen to “Viva Voce” below.
