This week marks another week of great live shows in Austin, especially with the midweek Knox Hamilton concert coming up at Stubb’s Indoor this Wednesday, Feb. 11. The Little Rock indie up-and-comers headline the night with Raw Paw/Punctum Records artist Young Tongue serving as the show’s opener. With these two bands, attendees will get a chance to see two headline worthy acts in an intimate setting for the cost of one ticket.
Knox Hamilton came together in 2013 with the hopes of making something out of nothing. So far the group has released 3 EPs, but that doesn’t mean a full-length LP is out of the question in the future. The band believes that first and foremost, their objective is to create pop music that is catchy and easy to sing along with. Fans and critics have compared the band to the likes of Phoenix and Two Door Cinema Club. Long story short, their music is accessible, FM radio ready pop that doesn’t insult your intelligence.
Austin-based openers Young Tongue, formerly known as The Baker Family, are an indie rock band that have been together for the last seven years. Frontman Stu Baker and bassist Nathan Ribner met in Asheville, North Carolina where they started The Baker Family alongside Stu’s wife, Liz Baker. The trio played in NC for a few years and toured the Midwest/East Coast a bit before deciding to move to Austin, and completing the band with drummer Darryl Schomberg II and second guitarist Travis Larrew. Once they remade their brand and became Young Tongue, the band decided to record a new album, Death Rattle, released in November. See them live at Stubb’s and you’ll understand why they are poised for a big year.
Stubb’s is located at 801 Red River. Doors open at 8 p.m. All ages welcome. Advance tickets for this event are available for purchase online here.
