Tonight, Dec. 5, the sounds of real hip-hop will take over popular 6th Street venue Flamingo Cantina as they present Sacramento hip-hop duo Blackalicious. The bill is solid from top to bottom as Austin-based hip-hop group Mindz Of A Different Kind and DJ Notion open the show. This is the show hip-hop fans are looking for this weekend.
Composed of rappers Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel, the duo often get grouped by fans and critics with West Coast rap acts Pharcyde and Jurassic 5, probably due to their positive lyrics and distinct multisyllabic flow. They released their debut EP Melodica in 1994 and have since release three full-length albums with a slew of singles their fanbase can’t get enough of. Hopefully for longtime Blackalicious fans in attendance tonight, they will get to hear the group perform new material from their upcoming fourth LP, Emoni, set for a March 2015 release.
Flamingo Cantina is located at 515 E. 6th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. 21+ welcome. Winston’s Kitchen will be selling Jamaican food at the show. Advance tickets for this event are available for purchase online here.
* Editor’s note: Daniel “Bambaata” Marley was initially scheduled to be part of the opening act lineup but he has canceled.
